Suo Yang | A Traditional Herb from the Desert

Among traditional herbal materials, Suo Yang is recognised for its distinctive appearance and growth environment. It is mainly found in dry desert and semi-desert regions. The herb develops a thick, fleshy stem that is generally cylindrical in shape, ranging from brownish to dark brown after drying.

Unlike many familiar root herbs, Suo Yang does not have prominent green leaves. Instead, its fleshy stem is the main part traditionally collected and used. When sliced, the interior shows a dense natural texture with brown to dark-brown tones.

In traditional herbal culture, Suo Yang is regarded as a nourishing herbal material and is often combined with other herbs in traditional preparations. From surviving in harsh desert environments to being carefully harvested, sliced and dried, Suo Yang reflects the remarkable adaptability of traditional herbal plants.
